# Account statuses

> The seven values an account reports, and which of them you can reverse

Seven values. **Only `DEACTIVATED` is something you can reverse yourself.**

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `ACTIVE` | Usable. Money can move in and out. |
| `PENDING` | Provisioning has not finished. Deposit instructions may not exist yet. |
| `DEACTIVATED` | Switched off, and reactivatable. Visible on List but refused by Get with a 409. |
| `CLOSED` | Terminal. Not reachable through this API — reportable only. |
| `FROZEN` | Frozen by risk or compliance. Not reactivatable by you. |
| `UNDER_REVIEW` | Enhanced due diligence in progress. |
| `DORMANT` | Inactive through disuse. |

<Warning>
  **Treat unknown values as unknown.** An internal state that does not map to one
  of these seven is omitted rather than guessed.
</Warning>

## Which ones you can change

| Status | Can you change it? |
| - | - |
| `ACTIVE` | [Deactivate it](/api-reference/accounts/deactivate-account) |
| `PENDING` | Wait |
| `DEACTIVATED` | [Activate it](/api-reference/accounts/activate-account) |
| `FROZEN` | No — contact Endl |
| `UNDER_REVIEW` | No — wait |
| `DORMANT` | No |
| `CLOSED` | No |

<Note>
  **AED accounts cannot be activated or deactivated at all** — both calls return
  `409 ERRACC_1003`. And a `DEACTIVATED` account is refused by
  [Get account](/api-reference/accounts/get-account) with `409 ERRACC_1002` while
  [List accounts](/api-reference/accounts/list-accounts) still shows it, so List is
  your only way to find one. The full lifecycle is in the
  [Accounts guide](/guides/accounts#lifecycle).
